KEW BAPTIST GROUPS

The network of groups at Kew Baptist Church offers diverse opportunities for involvement – for ministry, prayer, Bible Study, service and more. Some groups continue over a long period, others exist for a short period for a specific purpose.

See under “events” for an indication of current group opportunities, or contact the church office (03) 9853 3292, info@kewbaptist.net.au.

To give a taste, groups include:

  • Music teams (weekly)
  • Prayer groups (weekly)
  • Young adult groups which focus on diverse topics (weekly)
  • The Ladies’ Evening Fellowship meets in members’ homes once a month, often hearing guest speakers and interacting with each other in a relaxed, friendly environment.
  • The Mission, Aid and Development (MAD) group (bi-monthly) focuses on local and global issues, with members doing all they can to address injustice, provide empowering help for people in need and spread the message of Jesus. They are MAD enough to believe they can make a difference to the world with God’s help! The MAD group is responsible for advising the church about the allocation of funds to be used for mission, aid, justice and development projects and personnel. More than 10% of the church’s offerings is allocated to local and global concerns, highlighting the broad focus of Kew Baptist Church.
  • Study groups (weekly and fortnightly) – a variety of groups meet in people’s homes or in one of the church buildings.
  • Carrical Barbeque – offering a meal and friendship to residents of Carrical boarding house in Hawthorn (monthly)
  • The Chat and Chew luncheon for men (monthly) is held at Karana , giving retired men the opportunity to get together, hear a speaker, and discuss life, faith and a multitude of other topics while enjoying a meal together.
  • Preaching classes (weekly), led by members of the pastoral team, enables members of the congregation, especially young adults, to discern and develop their preaching gifts. Participants in the training sessions try out their preaching within the group and gain helpful critiques from their peers and, by then, most are courageous enough to speak at church services.
